Souliman Khatib returns to the desert, the place of his release from prison. Once convinced that violence was the sole means of resistance against the occupation, a decade behind bars sparked a profound political and spiritual transformation within him. Subsequently Khatib co-founded Combatants for Peace, an NGO dedicated to ending the Palestine occupation through peaceful activism. 05.05.2022 Judean Desert, Palestine. © 2022 Friedrich J. Living in Beit Jala became a transformative experience for Rotem Levine. Here he transcended the narrative of hatred and fear. He criticises the Israeli education system for controlling information about the Nakba, limiting knowledge and empathy. He urges Israelis to seek knowledge beyond the dominant narrative and gain an understanding of the Palestinian perspective. 13.09.2022 Beit Jala, Palestine. © 2022 Friedrich J. „I would say the Jewish people needed safety, so they‘re occupying the land. This way was a strategy to meet this needed safety. We will never disagree on the need of safety. […] We all need safety. The strategy that Israel chose to meet this need is what we disagree. Mai Shaheen 26.08.2022, Abu Dis, Palestine. © 2022 Friedrich J. Richter, Lisa-Maria Gruber

Tamar Alon was inspired by the story of two soldiers—an Israeli and a Palestinian—who, despite losing their siblings, viewed the perpetrators as victims. This compelled her to refuse mandatory military service, leading to a 130-day imprisonment. After her release, she studied Arabic in the West Bank village of Susya and actively supported the resistance against the forced displacement of 1,200 Palestinians for the Firing Range 918. 11.09.2022, Susya, Palestine. © 2022 Friedrich J. “They just asked to live in a neighbourhood that will be a kind of a family hood. All of them were Holocaust survivors… they wanted the free space and they also wanted that the children will be free because this was our land… And I think that the green gardens and the trees and flowers were a wonderful symbol for the longing to European countries” Lizzie Doron 04.05.2022, Tel Aviv, Israel. © 2022 Friedrich J. Lizzie Doron, initially celebrated for her novels as a second-generation Holocaust survivor, later faced rejection from Israeli society due to her pro-Palestinian literature. Growing up in Bitzaron, a neighbourhood that used to be exclusively populated by Holocaust survivors and their families, she holds the belief that the Jewish trauma contributes to a desire for strength, leading to acts of oppression against Palestinians. 04.09.2022, Tel Aviv, Israel. © 2022 Friedrich J.
